I remember people laughing at me for taking pictures of everything (and I do mean EVERYTHING!): the food, the decor, the pretty napkins... I just love immortalizing all that, so I didn't care if I was acting like a paparazzi (my family is used to it ;)
Now, especially in wedding photography, it has become a trend to shoot the details, such as the bride's shoes. But it can, and should, be applied to any other event. The hostess/planner spent a lot of time and effort to put it together.
The images above are from a birthday party that I photographed a few weeks ago, to celebrate Elon's 1st birthday. I don't specialize in children photography, but I love events, and Diana, Elon's mom, is one of my best friends. I knew she would organize an awesome party, and I was right! There was everything: a colorful theme, balloons, moon bounce, clown, face painting... So think about how sad it would have been if I hadn't photographed any of those details, like the party favors or the customized birthday hat? (Even though Elon refused to wear it...).
So next time you attend an event, even if it's not a wedding, don't forget to photograph the details! You'll be happy you did
